Songwriting legend Guy Clark doesn't merely compose songs; he projects images and characters with the hands-on care and respect of a literary master. Clark works slowly and with strict attention to detail, producing an impressive collection of timeless gems which have fueled not only his career, but the careers of many of his peers as well. Using everyday language to construct extraordinary songs for more than 35 years, Clark continues to be the type of songwriter whom young artists study and seasoned writers revere.
Over the years, Clark’s music has been embraced in the recordings of some of the industries finest performers including Bobby Bare, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, and the legendary Johnny Cash, whose interpretation of Clark’s "Texas, 1947" was for him a 1975 hit. Inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Foundation's Hall of Fame in 2004, and honored with the Americana Music Association's Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting in 2005, Clark continues to produce honest music with a plain-spoken delivery that is indicative of his persona.
With a career that spans almost four decades, Clark shows no sign of slowing. The eleven blues-shaded, wisdom-filled songs on Clark’s 2009 release Somedays the Song Writes You are evidence of that. For the album, Clark teams up with co-writers young and old to show us once again not just how to write a song, but how to breathe life into it.
Austin, Texas based America band The Belleville Outfit will open the show with their rootsy mix of swing, country, jazz, gypsy and blues.
