Chris Daniels & the Kings played their first show on March 14, 1984, and have since toured Europe more than 14 times and played in the States from South Carolina to Seattle, from New York City to LA. The seven-piece rockin’ band, called “funky-blues” by the Europeans, is celebrating their 24th year of making great music. They’ve been described as “Little Feat with horns” and “John Hiatt meets Tower of Power.”
Since 1991 the band has made a name for themselves touring Europe: playing for the Queen of Holland at the 50 Year VE Day Celebration and for 450,000 at Parkpop in Den Hague. They have had number one hits in Holland with their critically acclaimed CDs: The SPARK, Is My Love Enough, That's What I Like About The South, In Your Face, When You’re Cool and Louie Louie. Their “Best of” CD, titled Choice Cuts, was first released on K-Tel (yes, the same guys that do late night TV ads for Slim Whittmen) and became a Top 5 hit on AC radio stations all across the USA.
Chris Daniels & the Kings have toured over two continents and have been asked to appear in such diverse places as The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, South America, Curacao, Japan, and all over Europe. Chris has appeared with the B.B. King, Uncle Cracker, Blues Traveler, The Neville Brothers, Delbert McClinton, Sister Hazel, Sheryl Crow, Robert Cray, Taj Mahal, Al Kooper, Bonnie Raitt, Ziggy Marley, and The Fixx to name only a few. They are headliners on international festivals and have toured as the back up band for Sonny Landreth, David Bromberg, Al Kooper, Bo Diddly, Francine Reed, and Dutch guitarist Jan Rijbroek in places like Paris, Rome, and Amsterdam.
The Kings are: Chris Daniels, rhythm guitar and vocals; Colin “Bones” Jones, lead guitar; Chris Stongle, drums and vocals; Kevin “Bro” Lege, bass and vocals; Dean LeDoux, keys and vocals; Darryl “Doody” Abrahamson, trumpet and vocals; and Jim Waddell, alto, tenor sax, flute, and vocals.
Chris Daniels is not related to Charlie or Jack so he’s had to bust his ass with his guitar, starting as a 17-year-old songwriter and guitarist back in the 1970s when he played with Kate Taylor, David Johansen, (before the New York Dolls) and later with Russell Smith (after The Rhythm Aces). He has preformed thousands of shows, touring 46 out of every 52 weeks, and has worked making records with some of the most respected musicians in the business including Sonny Landreth, Sam Bush, David Bromberg, Al Kooper, Bill Payne, and Don Was, to name only a few. As a record producer, he produced the powerful Hazel Miller award-winning album, Icon. He is also a former Executive Director of Swallow Hill.
