The Chicago-based folk duo of Jacquie Manning and Rich Prezioso say it has taken them years of careful indecision to develop a repertoire they describe as “Celtic to Cowboy.” Superb musicianship and showmanship, award-winning songwriting, and a strong sense of tradition has made them a favorite of critics, fans and music peers alike.
Small Potatoes has been touring on the folk circuit since 1993. In that time they’ve become sought-after regulars at many clubs and coffeehouses across the U.S., and they have made repeat appearances at major folk festivals, including the Kerrville Folk Festival, the Walnut Valley Folk Festival, and Philadelphia Folk Festival. They were one of the “most requested” acts at the 1999 Falcon Ridge New Artist Showcase. Manning is also a past winner of the Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Contest.
Calling themselves eclecto-maniacs, their mix of music ranges from country to blues, from swing to Irish. Their four recordings, Alive!, Waltz of the Wallflowers, Time Flies, and Raw cover all these styles. They both sing, play guitars and an array of other instruments. They even yodel! Sing Out! magazine called them “wonderfully eclectic” and said “Small Potatoes might well be leading mainstays on the folk scene for years to come.”
German-born, Seattle-based, award-winning singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Hans York, whose style draws comparisons to Sting, Paul Simon, Kenny Rankin and Michael Franks, will open the show.
