Swallow Hill would like to congratulate John McEuen on his most recent Grammy win for his production on Steve Martin's album The Crow (won for Best Bluegrass Album)!
Performing Friday, April 2 at 8 PM:
Swallow Hill Music welcomes back famed Nitty Gritty Dirt Band founder, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, Grammy winner, Western-heritage award winner, producer and multi-platinum artist John McEuen. John has called Swallow Hill one of his "favorite places to play" and we’re happy to have him back.
It has been 41 years since John helped found the Grammy award-winning country-folk-rock behemoth Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and to this day he still tours and performs with them. In between tours with his band, John has taken to performing as a solo artist, often incorporating special guests and a mass of vintage instruments into his live show with the finesse and showmanship that only "the String Wizard" could provide. John's multi-instrumental skills have lead critics to describe him as an "instrumental poet," much less just a musician.
The who's who list of performers that John has played and recorded with over the years includes: Dolly Parton, The Doors, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash just to name a fraction of the list. John McEuen continues to bring his multi-instrumental string wizardry to stages throughout the country, and thankfully that includes the warm atmosphere of Swallow Hill Music.
For this performance, John has invited west coast hot pickers Craig Eastman and Matt Cartsonis to join him. You will hear people talking about this trio after this performance..and it will be good! Some more information on them:
Fiddle virtuoso Craig Eastman has recordied and performed with such luminaries as Ray Charles, Sheryl Crow, Rickie Lee Jones, Keb Mo and John Jorgenson. "Craig Eastman is a true genius on the fiddle...He's an innovator and melodist" (Steve Martin).
Los Angeles based singer Matt Cartsonis will also join John on stage. Says McEuen of his pickin' buddy, "Matt is one of the finest singers I know (and the only one in L.A. I know who sings like he is from Kentucky - that high bluegrass lonesome sound), and a funny guy with funny songs, all accompanied by his hot licks on mandola and guitar.”
Opening for John McEuen et al will be inspirational singer/songwriter Pete Kartsounes (no association with Matt, just pure coincidence!) with his original blend of bluegrass/folk/blues music.
