By his own account, Laurence Juber began playing guitar the same week that "I Want to Hold Your Hand" by The Beatles was released. In the 1970s as a young working musician in London, Juber got an extraordinary, life-changing break when Paul McCartney picked him to be the lead guitarist for Wings. Juber spent three years recording and touring with the band. During that time he won a “Best Rock Instrumental” Grammy for his work on "Rockestra" from the Wings album Back to the Egg.
Later, Juber embarked on a career as a solo artist, composer and arranger, and soon developed a reputation as a world-class guitar virtuoso. Once voted "Guitarist of the Year" by Fingerstyle Guitar magazine and named one of the “top acoustic players of all time” by Acoustic Guitar magazine, he has since released 14 solo albums to critical acclaim.
In addition to his own recordings and performances, Juber has also produced and played on several of Al Stewart’s albums, as well as released a series of instructional CD's that teach basic music theory and arrangement techniques for guitarists.
Laurence Juber will offer a guitar workshop on Saturday, February 20 at 3 p.m. He'll perform and discuss arrangements and compositions from his repertoire including warm ups, playing more efficiently, basic fingerstyle patterns, fundamentals of harmony, and altered tunings (DADGAD). Fingerstyle will be the main focus, however flatpicking will be covered too. Basic knowledge of music theory is helpful, but not essential. More information soon!
“…it's hard to believe he has only 10 fingers and six strings...His playing is just short of sleight of hand and, like all magicians, he takes it seem effortless." – San Francisco Chronicle
