An Evening with Moya Brennan -The Voice of Clannad
Co-presented by Celtic Events and Kolacny Music
Performing Saturday, April 3 at 7:30 PM:
Like her sister Enya, Grammy award-winning artist Moya Brennan has decided to phonetically spell her Gaelic name. Moya is known worldwide as the voice of Clannad, her Grammy-award winning family band who pioneered the popular Celtic sounds for films, TV shows and commercials. With their fresh, vibrant, and progressive sound, Clannad sent tremors through the world of traditional music. With their Theme From Harry's Game, they took the Irish language and its melodies to places that it had never been before - Top of the Pops, major record contracts and world tours. The accolades followed -Ivor Novello (England's Grammy) and BAFTA awards, and after several nominations, a Grammy award in 1999.
Moya has assembled a backing band overflowing with talent and enthusiasm along with a production team who have taken the distinctive atmosphere created by Moya's voice to new levels. Their skills have been an integral part of a live show which, to date, has included many traditional arrangements, a number of her recent solo songs and timeless Clannad compositions.
Over the years, Moya has developed an individuality which has already shown itself in her expanding body of work. Where an artist's career can often be measured in months, hers spans decades. Through her clamorous journey-through school halls, folk clubs, festivals, discos, churches, the world's most renowned concert halls-she has travelled purposefully and always focused. The power of her whispered tones and the beauty of her music touch the soul. Gently, yet persistently, her songs and her music are redefining Irish music.
"[Moya Brennan] has one of the greatest voices the human ear has ever experienced" -Bono, U2
