The Lovely and Talented fuses international influences of sambas, boleros, Gypsy swing, Morricone/mariachi, American folk and blues, featuring singer/guitarist JT Nolan, singer/pianist Kate Shoup, drummer David Petry and electric bassist Matt Skellenger. Their signature blend of rich, resonant melodies and a rhythmic life force has earned them comparisons to Tom Waits, Beck, Gomez and Leonard Cohen. The band’s self-titled debut was released in 2006 to critical acclaim.
The Matt Skellenger Group is an otherworldly jazz experience featuring Skellenger on bass, Glenn Taylor on pedal steel guitar, Dave Miller on percussion and electronics, and Andy Skellenger on percussion. The debut album from this unique group, Parentheticals was released in January 2009, and the band will be performing all-original compositions from the new CD. "Matt Skellenger’s Parentheticals pushes instrumental jazz to new unique levels with its experimentation. Skellenger proves himself to be among some of the elite bassists with his performance on the album…" says Chris Homer, MuzikReviews.com Assistant Senior Editor.
